Can I sell my shares?

Your shares are unlikely to be liquid in the short term, even if the company is kicking goals! It may be a minimum of 3-5 years before there is an opportunity to sell your shares or cash in your equity.

You will (probably) only be able to sell your shares in the business if an exit event occurs. An exit event may take place in the form of:

  • Initial Public Offering (IPO): The business decides to list on ASX. The investor can then sell their shares on the stock market

  • Trade sale: Another company decides to purchase the business. In this instance, investors will be paid for their stake at the final purchase price

  • Share buyback: The company’s management decides to buy back equity (shares) from its investors (this would require shareholder approval and a selective buy back would require a special resolution)
